Description
Reporting to the Creative Collective for design direction, the Senior Exterior Designer works closely with the Team Principal taking a senior role/lead on the projects’ creative 2D & 3D design, CAD including 3D visuals, liaising with other departments on multiple projects within team.  Responsible for the visualisation of the design vision and realising the design detail of the project. As a Creative Lead it is the Senior Exterior Designer’s responsibility to ensure the client brief is understood and to ensure that every project is completed to the highest standards of yacht design with originality and innovation in order to establish RWD as industry leaders. Every project must be a successful collaboration with both the client and shipyard. The Creative Lead will be an inspiring designer and work to ensure the team’s success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

• Work with the Team Principal and Creative Lead/ Creative Collective to ensure a full understanding of the design brief and design direction
• Establish boat design using sketch generation to give initial ideas and concepts and develop these from conception, through a rigorous design process to completion
• Responsibility for project coordination, manage others and direct work/ideas including exterior creative team, Graphics department and external visualisers. Liaise with the 3D modelling team to critically analyse and evaluate their complex output and work to develop design solutions to overcome performance, aesthetic and ultimately building issues
• Work closely with the project manager and construction teams to investigate and resolve complex performance, manufacturing and aesthetic issues associated with the exterior design
• Work closely with the Project Manager and Team Principal to ensure work is produced in a timely manner to ensure project schedules are met and ensure all stakeholders are kept up to date of progress
• Complete 3D Rhino models showing visual detail of the yacht exteriors for full 3D visuals for client presentations
• To represent RWD at project meetings, including overseas visits, and hold client meeting with or without a Director present
• To communicate and translate the exterior design information to the Client, Shipyard and suppliers
• Using initiative and self-motivation to keep up to date with current trends, attending shows as necessary
